Aventador replacement prototype malfunctions: spy photos

An unfortunate prototype crash means we have our most detailed look at the upcoming Lamborghini yet.
When a prototype replacement for the Lamborghini Aventador showed up on the side of the road, Italian spy photographers took the opportunity to claim the car looked broken. The resulting images give us the most detailed look at the car’s well-hidden design.
We first saw the Aventador replacement in December, but at the time it was more camouflaged. Judging by these spy shots, the body of the car is closer to the final product, only hidden by a spectacular camouflage film and a couple of fake taillight stickers on the back.
As far as we know, the as-yet unnamed car will borrow much of the design from the Terzo Millennio concept first shown in 2017, with slimmer headlights and more Y-shaped trim. Several features also remind us of the limited edition Sián FKP 37.
With the car grounded, the photographers were able to get very close to the prototype, photographing some extremely detailed sections of the bodywork and even parts of the engine bay, which is not surprising for a prototype, mostly just a tangle of wires.
Lamborghini hasn’t said exactly what powertrain the Aventador replacement will have, but former boss Stefano Domenicali said back in 2017 that it would have a naturally aspirated V-12. However, this engine probably won’t be the only source of torque, as CTO Maurizio Reggiani told us in 2019 that it will be paired with supercapacitor-style hybrid technology. We just have to wait and see.
