The first international standard of electrode for supercapacitor was issued

Recently, the international standard IEC/TS 62565-5-2 (supercapacitor electrode blank detail specification) developed under the auspices of Shanxi Institute of coal chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry) was officially released by the technical committee of nano electrical products and systems of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC/TS 113).

 

This standard is the first international blank detailed specification for electrode sheets for supercapacitors. It combs in detail the chemical, physical, structural and electrochemical key control characteristics of electrode sheets that affect the performance of devices and their corresponding test methods.

 

Electrochemical capacitors are widely used in electric vehicles, high-speed trains, aircraft, photovoltaic, wind power and electronics due to their ultra-fast charging and discharging capacity, long cycle life, wide operating temperature range, high safety and reliability and low maintenance cost. Since the research on supercapacitors has been carried out by Shanxi Institute of coal chemistry, the industrial innovation chain of “raw materials devices applications” has been opened up, and a pilot test platform for supercapacitors has been established to evaluate the electrochemical performance of capacitor carbon, and further feedback and guide the material R & D, production and quality control. The researchers of the Institute found that it is very important for the basic scientific research and technological development of the whole industrial chain to accurately characterize the key control characteristics of the electrode slice of the super capacitor and clarify the structure-activity relationship between “capacitor carbon electrode slice capacitor”.

 

In 2018, Shanxi Coal Chemical Institute put forward the idea of formulating the blank material specification for electrode slice. In 2020, the standard project was officially approved.

 

The release of this standard will provide guidance for the unification of terms and concepts, the standardization of production processes and the establishment of product specifications for the electrode pieces of supercapacitors, and support the promotion of industrial technical exchanges, technical cooperation and the elimination of trade barriers in related fields. At the same time, this standard is the first international standard for electrode chips for supercapacitors, which fills the gap of international standardization, introduces the concept of supercapacitors and their materials for IEC/TS 113, starts the international standardization of IEC/TS 113 in the field of carbon nanostructure materials for supercapacitors, and improves China’s international influence and voice in related fields.
